Courier charges from India to Canada: rates per kg
India to Canada courier charges, whether you search for courier rates from India to Canada, parcel charges or shipping charges from India to Canada, are worked out per kg of chargeable weight. We quote Mumbai to Canada courier charges before pickup, so you know the India to Canada courier cost upfront. Send us the weight and box size on WhatsApp and we reply with today's courier price from India to Canada for your parcel.
- Weight: the courier rate from India to Canada is per kg, and heavier parcels usually get a lower rate per kg.
- Box size: a big, light box is charged on volumetric weight (see the example below).
- Service: express or economy.
- Contents: food and commercial goods need more paperwork than documents or clothes.
How chargeable weight is worked out
Couriers charge whichever is higher: the actual weight on the scale or the volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in cm divided by 5,000 on most express networks. Bulky student parcels with bedding or jackets are often charged on volume.
The cheapest way to send a parcel to Canada from India
Looking for a cheap courier from India to Canada? The price is mostly about weight and box size, so these steps make the biggest difference:
- Vacuum-pack soft items like clothes, blankets and jackets to cut volumetric weight.
- Send one bigger parcel instead of several small ones; the rate per kg usually drops.
- Use a box that fits. We pack at your doorstep in the smallest safe box.
- Keep it under the gift limit where you can (see customs below), so the receiver pays no duty or tax.
- Book before September if you are sending for students starting college, when demand peaks.
How to choose the best courier service from India to Canada
Whichever courier service to Canada from India you pick, check these points before you book. You can ask us every one of them.
- A clear price per kg, including every surcharge and tax.
- Measures your box and explains volumetric weight before quoting.
- Doorstep pickup and strong packing for a long-haul journey.
- Knows the Canadian gift and food rules, so your parcel is not held.
- Says upfront who pays duty, tax and brokerage in Canada.
- Tracking and a real person to call or WhatsApp.
How long does a courier from India to Canada take?
It depends on the service and the destination city: major cities like Toronto and Vancouver are usually quicker than remote areas. We confirm the expected delivery time when you book. Canadian customs checks can add time, especially for food.
Canadian customs, duty and tax: what the receiver may pay
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has two thresholds that matter for parcels from India:
- Gifts worth CAD 60 or less are free of duty and tax when a friend or relative sends them to you personally with a card or note saying it is a gift.
- Other parcels from India (outside the Canada–US–Mexico agreement) are duty- and tax-free only up to CAD 20. Above that, duty and GST/HST may apply.
- Courier brokerage fees for clearing customs are separate from duty and tax. Ask us who pays them before you book.
- Declare the true contents and value. Wrong declarations delay parcels and can lead to penalties.
Documents you need: a copy of your photo ID (such as Aadhaar or passport), the receiver's full Canadian address with postal code and phone number, and an itemised list of contents with values. Business shipments also need a commercial invoice.
Sending food to Canada from India
We send homemade and branded food, pickles and snacks to Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) sets the rules, and some foods simply cannot come by courier:
- Meat: fresh, dried and cured meat is not allowed, and the few meat products Canada does accept cannot come by mail or courier.
- Eggs from countries other than the USA are not allowed.
- Dairy: only certain products (such as pasteurized cheese, yogurt and ice cream) are allowed from India. Check with us before sending ghee or milk sweets.
- Fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and dried foods depend on the CFIA's import system (AIRS). Some need permits.
- Dry, sealed and well labelled packaging gets through fastest. Personal-use limits are around 20 kg per category.
Sending things to students in Canada
Many of our Canada parcels go to students. Clothes, winter wear, books, documents, kitchen items and dry snacks are the most common. Pack documents separately and keep a copy of the itemised list for the student, so they can answer any questions at customs.
What you cannot send to Canada
Cash, explosives and flammable items, alcohol and tobacco cannot be sent by international courier at all. See our full prohibited items list. For Canada, also avoid meat, eggs and most dairy, as explained above. Not sure about an item? Send us a photo on WhatsApp before pickup.
