UAE customs, duty and VAT on parcels from India
UAE customs rules can differ by emirate, so we confirm the details for your parcel when you book. The main points:
- Dubai: eligible low-value shipments with a value (including shipping and insurance) of AED 1,000 or less are exempt from customs duty.
- 5% VAT applies to imports into the UAE, whatever the value.
- Tobacco, e-cigarette products and alcohol are excluded from the duty exemption.
- Other emirates, such as Abu Dhabi, apply their own rules.
- Declare everything accurately, including the full contents and value.
Documents you need: a copy of your photo ID (such as Aadhaar or passport), the receiver's full UAE address and mobile number, and an itemised list of contents with values. Business shipments also need a commercial invoice.
